How I Met My Dog
Houston PetSet partnered with the founders of How I Met My Dog to launch the online pet adoption platform to Houston PetSet’s 70+ grantees throughout Texas. How I Met My Dog is a new online service that custom matches rescue dogs and adopters based on behavior and lifestyle, not breed. Their mission, like that of Houston PetSet and its rescue and shelter partners, is to find each dog a home where they will thrive.

Lance McCullers Jr. Foundation
As a grant recipient of The Lance McCullers Jr. Foundation, Houston PetSet is provided with funding needed to support our transport program. In 2020, The Lance McCullers Jr. Foundation has committed $40,000 to Houston PetSet’s animal transport program.

Petco Foundation
The Petco Foundation provided Houston PetSet with a $50,000 grant to support our efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

PetSmart Charities
PetSmart Charities provided Houston PetSet with a $50,000 grant to support our efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Red Rover
RedRover provides Houston PetSet with important grant funding needed to sustain the Houston PetSet transport program.

Spay & Neuter

Increase the number of accessible and high-volume spay and neuter programs.

Big Fix Houston
Houston PetSet provided Big Fix Houston with grants to assist in running their free spay/neuter voucher program.

The Empty Shelter Project
Houston PetSet provided The Empty Shelter Project with seed funding for equipment needed to run their MASH-style spay/neuter efforts.

Houston PetSet’s Mobile Spay/Neuter Program
In partnership with Fido Fixers, Houston PetSet offers free spay/neuter mobile services to animals and citizens we know are most in need. Pets altered through this program also receive age-appropriate vaccines and are microchipped at no cost.

Maddie’s Fund
As a grant recipient of Maddie’s Fund, Houston PetSet receives the necessary funding to implement our low-cost spay/neuter program for communities in need. In addition, Maddie’s Fund provided Houston PetSet with a $50,000 grant to support our efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Texas Litter Control
Houston PetSet has partnered with Texas Litter Control to offer scholarships to veterinarians to attend a two-day class focused on high-volume spay and neuter best practices and techniques as outlined by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians Standards of Care. The goal of the class is to increase efficiency in spaying and neutering cats and dogs by teaching high-quality, high-volume surgical techniques and protocols. The class offers students a one-on-one, hands-on wet lab. Training will include various surgical methods to improve efficiency and students will be exposed to between 25 and 40 spay/neuter surgeries per day. Cruelty & Prevention

Decrease animal cruelty and fund agencies that protect neglected and abused animals.

Fort Bend County Judge KP George’s Transition Team
Houston PetSet was invited to join incoming Fort Bend County Judge, KP George, as a part of his Transition Team. Houston PetSet provides the Judge with valuable insights regarding animal welfare and animal cruelty issues.

Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce
Houston PetSet is a founding partner agency of the Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce, and provided funding for two of the Taskforce animal cruelty officers. The Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce was formed with the primary goal of streamlining the process of where and how animal cruelty can be reported in the Greater Houston Area. The Taskforce acquired 832-927-PAWS as their phone number in order to further streamline the reporting process, speed up response times and minimize duplication of efforts across the county. Community Service & Education

Implement and support outreach efforts to inform the public of proper treatment of animals.

Crime Stoppers Safe Schools Program
As a Houston PetSet grantee, Crime Stoppers receives funding from Houston PetSet to create and implement animal welfare related programming as a part of their Safe School Institute. Healing Species Texas
Houston PetSet supports Healing Species Texas and the important work the organization does by bringing rescue dogs to help teach children resilience, responsibility, compassion, empathy and tolerance. One of Houston PetSet’s resident dogs, Sonny Corleone, participates in this program by teaching the kids that it is possible to overcome life’s many struggles and difficulties, as Sonny was rescued off the streets of Sunnyside after suffering a gunshot wound.

PRSA Houston
PRSA Houston’s Service and APR Committees joined forces with Houston PetSet and its rescue partners to help homeless cats and dogs in Greater Houston. From entry level to seasoned pros, industry professionals are collaborating to create a comprehensive public service campaign that will positively impact thousands of animals and residents living in our communities.

Advocacy

Increase engagement to influence public policy and affect legislation at local and state levels.

Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN)
Houston PetSet provided THLN with the funding needed to host the SB 295 Laws for Paws Symposium to educate constituents regarding the 86th Texas Legislature bill proposed to provide animals with adequate food, water and shelter, and freedom from being tethered by chains. In addition, Houston PetSet provided THLN with funding for its Project Red, THLN’s digital acquisition and engagement venture. Houston PetSet also assists THLN in advocating for animal welfare related legislation.
