Did you know that Houston PetSet provides grants to 70+ Greater Houston animal welfare organizations each year? Our new “Rescue Feature Friday” series highlights one of our amazing partners so that you can learn more about the nonprofits that work so hard every day to end animal homelessness and suffering.

Today, we’re excited to feature Our Pet Project! With funding from our grant, their nonprofit is able to purchase dog and puppy food, supplies, vaccinations and it also helps offset the costs of veterinary care.

> What is the mission of Our Pet Project?
Here at Our Pet Project, we are driven by a single goal, to inspire individuals to take the opportunity to help us in the battle against animal cruelty, neglect and overpopulation. We strive to provide quality care, shelter, placement and essential services for rescued and abandoned animals.

> When was your organization established?
2018

> How did you become involved in your organization and what is your current role?
Monica George, Director and Founder

> Do you work with your organization as a paid or volunteer, full-time or part-time member?
Full-time, unpaid volunteer

> What keeps you motivated to continue your work?
It is about the souls that we save. I stay motivated because when I see a broken dog (mental or physical) and seeing and being a part of the process that goes from start to glorious finish as these babies get adopted into their forever home is what motivates me to continue. Of course, the good people I met along the way also play an important part of this whole process.

> What are you most proud of accomplishing?
As a young rescue, we have a lot of help from established rescue partners and they have helped to gain the reputation that our dogs are healthy and we do what we say we will do. Those partners know they can trust and depend on us to help if that is to pick up a dog in League City or volunteer on a busy intake day.

> What is something about your organization that the average person might not know?
100% of any money donated goes right back to help local dogs as well as to support local small businesses whenever we can. We love to partner with small business entrepreneurs to do (COVID safe) in-person events which involve the community.

> Describe your vision for the future of animal welfare in Greater Houston.
Approximately 15 million shelter animals are euthanized every year. It is our goal to reverse those statistics by helping abandoned animals find loving homes and by giving support to our local animal shelters.

Thank you, Our Pet Project, for all you do!
