If home wasn’t a safe place for you, for your children, or even for your pets, where would you run?

More than 70% of domestic violence survivors report that their abusive partner threatened or even harmed their pets. It’s just one reason why so many people choose to stay in unimaginable situations. And it’s why we started our PetProtect program. In 2022 alone, we provided free emergency boarding and veterinary care for 18 pets while their owners were fleeing family violence.

One of those pets, “Muffin”, was suffering from bladder stones because her mom’s abuser wouldn’t allow her to seek veterinary care. While staying with us, she finally received the medical attention she needed, and now that she and her mom are safe from their abuser, Muffin is on the mend.

This year, PetProtect has been there for ten domestic abuse survivors and their pets when they had nowhere and no one else to turn to in their time of immense need. With your support, we can help even more pets and the people who love them.

On Tuesday, November 29, Houston PetSet will celebrate Giving Tuesday. This is a day to put aside our material wants, and focus instead on the needs of our neighbors. We ask that you consider donating to Houston PetSet so that we can continue to provide services like PetProtect to courageous survivors.
