Duke, pictured above, was adopted from Harris County Pets when he was a puppy. He survived distemper and parvo, two deadly diseases, and was subsequently neglected by his owner, resulting in him contracting heartworm disease. Duke was then dumped back at the shelter in terrible shape, but this action would ultimately save his life. A dedicated foster took him in and brought him back to good health, a process that took more than two months.

After making his miraculous recovery, Duke left on transport with our friends from The Babinski Foundation. Their team drove 20 hours from Minnesota to Houston to bring more than 30 cats and dogs back to their shelter. We are so incredibly appreciative of their dedication #ForTheAnimals, and we look forward to many more lifesaving journeys together!
